We are taking you to the beautiful town of Alcalá del Júcar which is built on the side of a mountain with a castle at the top and Roman bridge at the bottom which was a crossing for Roman travellers who had to pay taxes to cross it.

 

There are 2 caves here, Garadén´s Cave is the older of the two, built during the Arab period and has a large viewing platform which was the look out point so no travellers could cross with out paying the taxes! It is a wonderful place to explore and is now connected by a metal staircase down to Cuevas del Diablo (the Devil´s Cave) which dates back to 1905 and was used to keep livestock and wine, but now has been renovated by the current family for tourist use and now has a small café serving drinks (not food).

There will be plenty of time to explore this wonderful town, the caves and the castle as well as choose one of the restaurants to enjoy a delicious lunch.

 

PLEASE NOTE:

THERE ARE A LOT OF STAIRS FOR INTERNAL ACCESS TO BOTH CAVES, SO IT IS NOT SUITABLE FOR THOSE WITH WALKING ISSUES. ENCLOSED COMFORTABLE SHOES SHOULD IDEALLY BE WORN, NO SANDALS OR FLIP FLOPS.
